"It's not until you need our healthcare system that you realize how strained and under resourced it actually is.  If you have no medical training or understanding of medical protocol and terminology like myself, it's confusing, overwhelming and really scary.  How do you get the right care and treatment if you don't know?  Can you trust that the medical team is providing you with the correct information and all the options?  My loved one would still be lying in a hospital bed on the wrong, over-crowded ward if Joanne had not advocated and worked with the health care providers to set up more tests, x-rays and treatment.  Joanne was kind and respectful while working with us all but also firm and very professional.  She was able to lead us through all the tough conversations to get results. I am so grateful for her help and continuous support while she advocated for a care plan that showed positive results!"

"Joanne has integrity and will not compromise her values.  I have had a personal experience in our healthcare system that failed me.  Joanne assisted me through a very difficult time dealing with cancer care.  Her knowledge, caring and desire to right the wrong done to me was so important to my ability to go forward.  Joanne is the number one person I would recommend to assist my family and friends to navigate our broken healthcare system."

"Cannot thank Joanne enough!  My elderly grandfather developed a badly infected leg and was taken to hospital for assessment and treatment.  He waited six hours in urgent care before he was even seen.  He was admitted for urgent IV antibiotics.  The doctor wanted our family to sign a 'do not resuscitate'.  We refused as our grandfather expressed his desire to live.  He was admitted to the medical unit.  Our family was concerned with the care and visited him several times daily.  The family did not feel we were getting enough information on how he was doing and or what the plan of care was.  He was not sleeping due to pain in his hip, not getting any supports to get him actively moving.  He was crying when we visited and complaining of not receiving adequate care.  We decided to have someone with medical knowledge see if there was more that could be done.  Joanne made a visit to the unit with our and Grandpa's permission to speak with the medical team.  Within the next few hours we could see a difference! Pain in his hip was addressed with a topical ointment and low dose pain killer.  Physical therapy and OT were ordered and initiated that day.  Grandpa stopped crying from not seeing his future and walking frequently with  help.  The next morning he was up getting dressed.  Communication with his team improved.  We saw such a change!  He is now back home, thanks very much to Joanne."

"I have known Joanne for many years as a colleague first and then a valued friend.  She brings with her a very diverse nursing background including Emergency, Intensive Care Experience, Medical, Surgical and Occupational Health Nursing.  She knows what it is like to work on the front lines at the bedside but is just as competent in her Nurse Management roles.  Joanne has always deeply cared for her patients and felt compelled to advocate for all.  She has an amazing ability to navigate our struggling medical system while supporting patients and their families.  She is not afraid to speak up to other medical professionals and ask those difficult questions that require honest answers."

"When confronted with a health issue, most people experience fear and uncertainty.  Often because their health is in the hands of complete strangers in the medical field.  Regardless of how capable the medical professionals are, building a trusting relationship between patient and doctor in one or two appointments is hard.  This is where Joanne's expertise and experience is vital.  She helps build that relationship by asking the right questions, and being a trusted person to support in explaining the answers.  I have witnessed Joanne help people in these situations to ask the right questions and understand prognosis.  Joanne's success in this area is due not only to her education and experience, but first and foremost, to her care and concern for others."
